Transitions: Why I Changed My Blog Name

“Change is not a threat, it’s an opportunity. Survival is not the goal, transformative success is.” Seth Godin

Change is Scary but it is also Infinitely Good ... for our growth

Today, I decided to change my blogger blog spot name from I Twitter, Therefore I am to Positive Kismet. The decision was not a difficult one but I agonized over it anyway because I had used the other name since I created the blog over a year ago. I love Twitter but the old blog name had been bought and I felt it was the right time and wise to let the name go. I knew that by releasing the name, someone else can use it effectively. This new blog is about healing, encouragement, reflections and positive thoughts. It is also about how our attitudes influence our daily exchanges with people, places, events and life.

Kismet is fate in Turkish and it makes sense to step out in good fate; I believe that if we act with the expectation that my/our collective destiny is positive, then we open the door to positive experiences and solutions.  I don't mean this in a contrived unthinking way. What I am suggesting is that if we act with clarity, strength, knowledge and a healthy dose of  can-do/positivity, our chances of  a successful outcome and/or clear resolutions increase. Stay a while and share some of your goodwill here... Karma is reciprocal.

What made me decide it was time to change? First of all, my blog was no longer only about Twitter and my twittering as a newbie, but more about a wider range of topics that interested me and hopefully others out there.  Since I spent most of my blogging time on my WordPress blog Mirth and Motivation which I also linked to my Twitter account, I didn't give enough attention or exposure to this blog and it was time for a shake-up. Needless to say, my WordPress related twitter life has grown and so have my interests. I have created a new twitter account for this blog, @positive_kismet, and  plan to take this blog in a somewhat different direction; I trust it will take better shape as I build the content.  Finally, because this blog was no longer attached to my idea of what twitter meant to me as a newbie, I lost momentum and focus. A rebirth was in order...

Earth Hour 2010: Lights Out around the World

Earth Hour 2010:Thoughts and photos on Earth Hour 2010

“The ultimate security is your understanding of reality.” H. Stanley Judd

On Saturday, March 27, between the hours of 8:30-9:30pm, somewhere around the world, people turned off their lights in honor of the global effort to highlight energy and environmental concerns. The goal was to make millions more people aware of the need to cut greenhouse gas emissions, better manage our energy resources and combat climatic changes.

Organized this year by the World Wildlife Fund, the 4th annual observation of Earth Hour was celebrated across the globe and reminded me of the power of the collective to enact change. The positive efforts of concerned citizens worldwide was a call to action that resonated with millions across continents who turned their lights off or gathered in cities to watch the dimming of lights at famous sites. While some people pooh-poohed the gesture as irrelevant or ineffective, the fact remains that we are living a global crisis created by the excessive use and abuse of our energy and natural resources.

Twitter at 1 Million Marathon: Ashton Kutcher 1. CNN 0.

I wrote this blog :All aTwitter: Ashton Kutcher vs. CNN for 1millionth Follower - @aplusk wins! earlier and posted it on my WordPress site. I surfed the net, read a few blogs and figured I'd add more observations...

There were tons of reactions to this social media event and many of us got quite a charge defending/disparaging the drama swirling around Ashton Kutcher , Anderson Cooper and CNN. Nevertheless, it was definitely an exciting race and the energy was quite palpable....

For me, I presume for you too, it was difficult to feign complete indifference because it ignited that deep-seated passionate response we reserve for things we either admire or abhor.

I was a witness to the marathon for the millionth tweeple last night and to Oprah Winfrey's first tweets this morning; it was all so surreal! How did this - tell me what you’re doing in 140 characters - company that Jack, Evan and Biz built create such frenzy? I thought Microsoft, Apple, Google, Facebook, LinkedIn and more … how far technology has come...

Follow-up: I Twitter, Therefore I am not a Twit but a Savvy Chick!

My initial foray into the world of Twitter or "twittering" was started with some degree of trepidation and confusion about this popular medium of social digital communication. I had reservations because it simply did not strike me as an effective way to hold quick chats; something, I believed, instant messaging was purported to do quite well for the attention-span-of-a-gnat crowd.

What was the method to this madness of sending out seemingly random thoughts? What compelled total strangers to share the inane contents of the short-circuits popping off their brains? Why was "everyone" catching the wave of dispensing with much flourish, their @whatever twitter handles at the drop of a hat with the exhortation - " tweet me?"
I was curious and wanted logical not pat answers to my questions. So I signed up anyway because some of my friends, people I love and respect, were on it, loving it, and regaling me with stories about how some elusive marketing/business/creative/ridiculously successful whiz had just responded to their tweets and was now a follower and vise versa.

I Twitter, Therefore I am not a twit?

Okay, I am willing to admit a level of ignorance in this venue... Yes, I do blog elsewhere and I have heard of the twitter trend but this is both fascinating and slightly confusing.

On my first twit try, I found myself with 23 connections to follow and 0 followers. What gives? I chose to mark some of them as favorites and send a quick hello via a tweet message; wondering if anyone will follow me and if I will be updated when they burped or yawned?

Will this come back to haunt me if my potential, future followers find I might have nothing to share? I have written a few short, pretentiously pithy comments somewhere out there in twitter world and I am not quite sure what the point is really; but I am excited!
