Reflections: The Value Of Patience...

“Patience means self-suffering.” Mahatma Gandhi

Reflections: The Value Of Patience...

In the application of Satyagraha, I discovered in the earliest stages that pursuit of truth did not admit of violence being inflicted on one's opponent but that he must be weaned from error by patience and sympathy. For what appears to be truth to the one may appear to be error to the other. And patience means self-suffering. So the doctrine came to mean vindication of truth, not by infliction of suffering on the opponent, but on one's own self. Mahatma Gandhi
Small Stones#25
Everywhere we turn, people are hustling and bustling,
Grabbing for the next new thing
"I wait for no one, I wait for nothing," they say...
Patience my dear; patience is not inaction
Patience is action that endures...
Patience is the artist who chisels away at his craft
Perfecting it...

"If patience is worth anything, it must endure to the end of time. And a living faith will last in the midst of the blackest storm."  Mahatma Gandhi

Reflections: The Value Of Patience...

“We cannot learn real patience and tolerance from a guru or a friend. They can be practiced only when we come in contact with someone who creates unpleasant experiences. According to Shantideva, enemies are really good for us as we can learn a lot from them and build our inner strength." Dalai Lama
Small Stones#25
Today, I waited for the birds to come for their bread
They took their time, till the temperature warmed a bit
"Patience my dear, we eat to live not to freeze," they seemed to say
Patience is the mother who reads to her impatient child
One day the child will read to her
Lovingly and patiently...
 More below

“There is nothing that wastes the body like worry, and one who has any faith in God should be ashamed to worry about anything whatsoever” Mahatma Gandhi

Small Stones#25
When I worry about what my next step will be.
Or I worry about why some plan is not jelling as hoped
My spirit guides me back to the value of patience...
Keep fine-tuning the work, keep moving forward
God's delays are not God's denial...
Patience...

What are small stones?
According to the originators of this wonderful exercise, a small stone is a short piece of writing (prose or poetry) that precisely captures a fully-engaged moment. The process of discovering small stones is as important as the finished product. Searching for small stones will encourage you to keep all your senses; - your eyes,(and ears, nose, mouth, fingers, feelings and mind) open.

Some Food for Thought: How do you exercise patience in your life?  Take a moment to contemplate what Patience means to you? Love and Peace in 2013.

  13. Well, having a toddler at his terrible twos stage really requires a lot of patience. I try to understand him as much as I could. It also helps a lot to keep quiet when you are about to lose patience.
