"Virtue is a habit of the mind, consistent with nature and moderation and reason." Marcus Tullius Cicero
Small Stones#12
I took several classes today and had a blast
I had a spring in my step and my heart sang
Hours later, my head felt like it was blasting
Endorphins are great
Exercise is wonderful
Moderation is essential

"The heart is great which shows moderation in the midst of prosperity." Lucius Annaeus Seneca
Small Stones#5
Post Hurricane Sandy, the walking path was blocked
Felled trees lay everywhere, reminders of the storm
Exercise continued but at a sensible pace
Walks on the Aqueduct were careful, measured...
I must remember that next time in the gym...
What are small stones?
According to the originators of this wonderful exercise, a small stone is a short piece of writing (prose or poetry) that precisely captures a fully-engaged moment. The process of discovering small stones is as important as the finished product. Searching for small stones will encourage you to keep all your senses; - your eyes, (and ears, nose, mouth, fingers, feelings and mind) open.
Some Food for Thought: How are you observing moderation in your life? Can you maintain your equilibrium when others are into excess? What messages are you receiving from your heart? Love and Peace in 2013.
I would love to hear from you: Please leave me a comment. Thank You!

In a world of excesses and lack, balance is indeed hard to acquire. I maintain moderation within myself, no vices!
ReplyDeleteWe gotta take all things in moderation. Anything that is taken more than what we need or handle can be a bit bad for us. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is a nice reminder that we should take things moderately. Don't push yourself too much but don't get too slow as well for you to achieve your goals or dreams without having to sacrifice some aspects of your life.
ReplyDeleteIn Pinay TY! We have to work at it for ourselves... so many temptations and so easy to fall off. I hear you. :-)

Hi Ron, So true... Whatever we do in excess will eventually exact a toll on us. TY! :-)
ReplyDeleteTY Maribeth I agree... everything in moderation or pay the piper... TY1 :-)
ReplyDeleteAh yes moderation in al things :-) I remember the days when I used to go mad in the gym and regret it later. These day I prefer a really good walk, preferably with my camera.
ReplyDeleteI love my walks too but then I start to feel stiff and need the heart rate uppers. Lol! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'm doing better now after a few days off! TY
I am eating in moderation and cooking healthier...trying not to eat in excess.
ReplyDeleteGood for you Shannon. That's an important part of it all...
DeleteI have a friend who likes to say, "Everything in moderation, including moderation." Lol. He is right, though. :)
ReplyDeleteBalance is needed with the world we live in. I am working hard to eat in moderation, not to restrict but not to over do it.
ReplyDeleteI am eating sweets in moderation. and walking more.Such a great blog post .

ReplyDeleteI always choose to eat in moderation, but I must admit I do indulge from time to time especially during special occasions. :) Love those quotes!
ReplyDeleteModeration is key but it's something I struggle terribly with! Working at it :))
ReplyDeleteI feel like I should remember Hurricane Sandy. Stretching to do so. I've recently been brought to my knees so everything is being re-evaluated. I felt close to God already, but when you're hurting, you feel even closer. For that I'm grateful. :)
ReplyDeleteI like taking things one day at at time. over time, you will see the change!
ReplyDeleteI tend to worry a lot. I push myself over my limits and end up tired and irritable. I know moderation is the key and I have to learn to pace myself. Thanks for this inspiring post.
ReplyDeleteSo few words can say so much. What a neat writing method to put to use.
