Haiku: To The Contingent...

“Hatred is like a poison which you inject into your veins, before injecting it into your enemy. It is throwing cow dung at another: you dirty your hands first, before you dirty others.” Gems of Buddhist Wisdom

What's wrong with your life?
To the witch-hunt contingent
Mind your own backyard...

You spend days snooping
Wasting our time concocting
Enslaved by false claims...

Spend time on your dreams
Build your fortress with good deeds
Mean acts never pay...

Sometimes, we find ourselves caught up in confusing situations. When they occur, we must step back and take stock without adding to the confusion.
Recently,  a friend was confronted at work for something she didn't do. Before she could address it, it had escalated into a dragged out, throw down fight; there no winners but lots of pain and opinions. She moved on with an apology,  the other side didn't.  Now she says they attack her at every little prompting. She has made peace with the situation and stirs clear of ideal chitchat with her colleagues. They are still furious and look for new ways to undermine her. What would you do?

"Laughter relieves us of superfluous energy, which, if it remained unused, might become negative, that is, poison. Laughter is the antidote."  George Gurdjieff

 A stinking rat knows
Poison finger points four back
Your rage is misplaced

The Elders have said
Evil plans will always fail
Bathe in the peace pool...

Spend time on your goals
Green grass today, fades away
GO. Tempus fujit!

We don't have to embrace every fight. She feels their anger is misplaced. I've told her to let it rest. If it bothers her enough, she can/should switch jobs and find a company that will treat her well. This haiku is based on the conversations we were having.  Some are her thoughts and some are mine. I think the best way to handle concentrated antagonism and gossip is to stay clear of it. Don't bother engaging with individuals, go to the boss and document it all. She must take decisive action to end the negative backbiting and the best way is to meet with the boss and the ring leaders and put a stop to it. What if you don't know who they are? Then document the false accusations and notify your boss of them. Add your response to each one and request that it be put in your file. After that, move on.  Constant face offs are a waste of energy. What would you advice?

"Every time you get angry, you poison your own system." Alfred A. Montapert

To the Contingent
Your poison arrows hurt you
Step back and reflect...

You speak with forked tongues
Wicked acts stain forever
Hiding is finite...

Spend time on your LIFE
The maligned will still flourish
Change Your ways today!

At the end of the day, it is best to forgive and move on. If you find that the colleagues in your work environment are still hostile, find a new place to call home; some place away from the gossip and noise. What say you?

Some Food for Thought: How do you handle detractors around?  Do you fall for group think or your own decision-making?  Take a moment to contemplate what the words Witch-hunting and Maligned mean to you. Love and Peace in 2014.

  5. We all really do need to mind our own lives rather than minding the lives of other.

  8. Wow...that's a lot to think about. As for your friend at the company, I have a small amount of patience for things like that so I'd leave the department as quickly as I could.

When I get out of sorts I just pray the Rosary. Works like a charm every time :)

The world would be a better place if everyone minded themselves instead of others.

  13. I agree with you that it's best to forgive and move on. Not worth the energy spent. I think it's likely that your friend will leave this company.

  14. I found that harboring anger was holding me back and that it was making me miserable. Once I let it go, I began to blossom again.

  16. "Every time you get angry, you poison your own system." Alfred A. Montapert -This quote is so true. Being angry takes up so much energy. I have learned that as I got older.

  17. I don't like the gossip thing. I have even gone so far as to put my hands on my ears and say lallala hahhaa, at work. People laugh but it ends up working. It's so damaging to everyone when it's in the wrong setting, even the ones doing the gossip!

  21. I agree with you- their anger is misplaced and she shouldn't feed into it. She needs to let it go or it will eat her alive. I dealt with the same situation previously. Sad to say, it was because I was able to get more work done in less amount of time which made the bosses sit up and reevaluate the rest of the team's performance (they were just talking and reading all day instead of working). The team took it out on me and I switched offices at my company. I won't be a victim and I won't allow anybody to sabotage. At the end of the day- they don't pay my bills and they aren't my problem.

Can't let it eat you alive.

    As always- fantastic post!

  22. Great post indeed. It is interesting how we sometimes don't ever realize we were a part of a negative thing until we are slapped in the face. We wake up one day and realize how much the time plus energy we wasted.

  28. you did a great job writing a Haiku. I haven't written one in years. I remember writing these for a class one time. They were fun to write.

  29. These are all really good quotes and poems. I try to surround myself with positive people. If someone is negative about everything, I avoid them. I don't have time for negative energy in my life. Thanks for sharing these!

  30. I have never liked the word hate...a very strong emotion and when said about someone it is hard to take back.

  31. This is so true. A small situation becomes a war! It doesn't have to be this way. If we would just step back and think the situation would probably end differently.

  32. This was a very good article. It makes you think about how you react to a situation

  33. that quote on hatred is awesome!
I used to write haikus and poetry.... I haven't in years tho!

  34. Wow, I really loved this piece. It is so different from so much of what you read on the internet. I have had a situation come up similar to your friend and I just cut the person out of my life. Unfortunately for your friend, she has to work with these people. So, I like your advice. Ignore them and document everything. It's a tough situation.

  41. A deep haiku to ponder upon for the rest of the day.

  42. This is very though provoking. We need more action and less talk in the world today. I believe in the future and so could you.

  43. It is so much better to let go and forgive and move on. Hatred and anger only makes us sick. God tells us to love one another. We don't have to like them but understand they are who they are and that is ok. I pray that you can put that smile on your face and move on

  44. What a great haiku-- one that should be repeated and repeated-- how soon we forget. Most of the people I relate to are very calm and positive But it is so easy to get sucked into others traps,of anger and hate, that can and doees turn on us. Thanks so much a great reminder
