Photo A Day: BUTTON And A HEALING...

"You have to take positions on bills. There is no button for maybe or possibly." Charlie Dent

I've never been much of a button collector, but I know how much they are valued. We use them to hold our clothing together... We use them to create important messages that we want others to hear and to commemorate important events in our lives. The simple button can also be a way to heal. We look at the various buttons in the bowl and GOOD jumps at me. In the midst of sadness and chaos, there is always some good. Lets find it!

What is the most helpful post (or Twitter hashtag) you read in all the coverage on Ferguson? This is the question for the healing prompt for day#3  Honestly, other than the formal media, I can't point at one article that truly stands out. By the same token, I look at the buttons in the bowl and even with the awful things going on around us, I still say, lets find the way to make this a moment of healing; Michael Brown's life should not be in vain. What remains clear is that:  Michael was shot at least six times and wasted away as he lay bleeding on the street for 4 hours. Regardless of what transpired between him and  Darren Wilson, shooting an unarmed person 6 times is excessive and unconscionable.

Our cops are there to protect us and many, many do. Only Michael and Darren know what truly happened that day and until all the facts are in, I say remember this was somebody's son, brother, and loved one. Would you want your child to experience such treatment? Would you be so cavalier in dismissing his death if he were one of your own?  Like the good button surrounded by many others, we can come together to work for the good of our communities and put a stop to any form of police brutality. To point an accusatory finger at a young man who can no longer speak for himself is wrong. There are many good cops and we need to work with them on healing our communities and finding better ways to communicate.

  8. White or black, you shouldn't charge at an officer unless you are asking to get shot. Simple as that.

  16. I think with everything happening regarding Ferguson, people need to just learn how to work together and respect each other more. More violence will not solve anything.

  17. I'm not really sure how to respond. I was a huge button fan in the 80's. We attached rock bands buttons to our members only jackets and scarfs. What's happened in Ferguson is tragic and so divisive, I hate it when communities have to deal with these things.
