How Gratitude Can Inspire Your Life & Work

"Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough."
 Oprah Winfrey

Make the best effort at work with a grateful heart.. it shows.

Unless you've been living in a bubble or under a rock, you know that the global economy took a massive hit in the last 3-5 years. In the USA, it cost millions of people their jobs, homes and lifestyle. According to the U.S. Department of Labor |Bureau of Labor Statistics,  as of February 2014, "the number of unemployed persons (10.5 million) and the unemployment rate (6.7 percent) changed little."  However, even with these dismal figures, businesses are thriving and new ones are created daily. Why? In down times, it's very easy to join the masses of people who see only gloom. Yet, for those who stay upbeat and look for positive ways to move forward, the struggles are blunted. Also when we adopt an attitude of gratitude for what we do have and look for the good in our challenges, new experiences present themselves to us.

For those fortunate enough to hold unto jobs, remembering to be thankful and to always give their best should be a given. When we make the best effort at work with a grateful heart, it shows. For folk still hunting for work, developing a spirit of gratitude for the help received and for the opportunities that lie ahead will open doors to new experiences and ways to earn a living. Every time we take a moment to say thanks and express our gratitude for what we have, we feel a deep joy and humility. Every time we stop to help a less fortunate friend, family member or stranger, our actions create ripples of good karma that spreads out and blesses us and others who cross our path.  By the same token, our grateful spirit flows into our creative endeavors and our interactions with others around us.  With each act of grace we encounter and each gesture of thankfulness we express, we become steady, calmer, and compassionate.  How are you expressing gratitude in your work life? What helps you stay inspired in your life?

More below!

"'Thank you' is the best prayer that anyone could say. I say that one a lot. Thank you expresses extreme gratitude, humility, understanding." Alice Walker

Find the time to be playful, grateful and joyful.

There was a time when I left the challenges in my life get the better of me. The more angry and frustrated I became, the more tangled the situation became. Over time, I had to learn to not only let go but to start finding the good in every situation;especially in situations that were unpleasant or hurtful.  Nowadays, I offer prayers, thanks and meditation as my daily ritual. I find the time to be playful, grateful and joyful instead of making excuses about XYZ. It has been a blessing to find that when we choose joy and gratefulness, the universe rallies to uplift and encourage us.  I have seen this shift in my life again and again.  If in doubt, test it for 3 days. Start your day with a Thank You for 10 things that happened the day before and another Thank You for the day ahead. No matter what transpires during the day, stop and find the lesson in it and give thanks. With time, you will notice a shift and a calming of the inner noise. Let me know how you gained some equilibrium. What do you do to maintain gratitude in your life?

Every little act we perform and every thought we hold can be a blessing or a curse to others and to ourselves. Gratitude and a prayer of thanks can move mountains... Have a thankful day!
What are you grateful for today? I am grateful for the inspiration that flows through me and for all forms of life> I am grateful for the good that embraces us all daily.

  4. I have so much that I am grateful for. I agree that when you concentrate on what you don't have you will never have enough. I try so hard not to focus on what I don't have and what I do have.

  5. Great Post!! Those who know me know I LIVE by what you stated in this post. It's kinda hard not to be a better person, (business or otherwise) when you are so full of gratitude for what you have. And like you said, when you are; it's like you open upon up a window of blessings to receive even more.

  6. What a nice post to read on the first day of Spring! Everyone should look at their life and be grateful for what they have and not be focused on what they don't have.

  7. Thank you for your post. I truly enjoyed reading this. It is true that what we think and say influences what comes to us. If we are positive, we will be repaid in kind. Negativity brings nothing but more negativity. So today I am thankful that I found your post and I use it to remind me to be grateful what what I have. Thank you, and peace

  12. I must say until recently I fell under the category of "letting challenges in life get the better of me", but over the past few months I've made every effort to remain positive even in challenging times. We all have problems, and if we have the means to help someone else with theirs it will benefit us as well. Karma really does exist. If we help others and we're always thankful life will be more rewarding. I think you've done a great job of that yourself with getting others to post about gratitude on their own blogs and then linking back to them on this blog. It's nice to see someone practise what they preach. Thanks for the inspiration.

  18. It's incredibly important to take a moment and pause to acknowledge all the positive things in your life. Sometimes, you want to dwell on something bad that's happened (with work or other things in life), but it's good to put things in perspective. I am very thankful that I am able to earn an income doing something that I l love - even if I haven't achieved the expectations that I've set for myself in the past.
