Be Bold As Love...

“All good fortune is a gift of the gods, and you don't win the favor of the ancient gods by being good, but by being bold.” Anita Brookner

This week, we have single words as prompts for our Writer’s Workshop exercise. I love the idea of running wild with a single word and finding an organic way to make meaning of that word. What does the word mean to you? What images come to mind? What ideas are prompted when you think of this word?

The word I chose from the list is BOLD. I like the idea of "bold" especially as we wrap up a rather strenuous year. I want 2011 to be my year of embracing the bolder me; going for the gold, maximizing my potential, and enjoying the abundance that comes from acting with faith and boldness. What are you planning to do in 2011? What word would you like to take with you into the New Year?

Mama's Losin' It

This Week’s Prompts:
This week I want you to write a post inspired entirely by one of these words:
1.) Simple.
2.) Angst.
3.) Excruciating.
4.) Enchanted.
5.) Bold.

As I mulled over the word, I was reminded that we act boldly when we are in love or when we are defending loved ones. Right? How many times have you spoken up, acted fiercely when your loved ones were being challenged? We go to bat for them because love is bold and often fearless. We take great chances for love when we connect with another soul and it takes patience and boldness to keep up with our children during their growing years.

So why, for some of us, doesn’t this boldness translate into other areas of our lives? We need to be bold as love in other areas of life especially when it comes to personal growth. No? How are you planning to go bold in 2011? I offer more thoughts and music on the subject below…

Another thought that occurred to me as I considered the word - BOLD - is that we all come into this world with gifts, talents and skills, and many of us allow criticism and fear to get in the way of our ability to express our gifts. Imagine, if you stood tall and confident about your gifts and worked at being the best you can at those skills? What would change? Us? Others? What matters is that we embrace our blessings and follow through by practicing them, sharing them, and growing them. If we take one step forward, also known as acting with faith, the universe will rally to support us …

“Originality implies being bold enough to go beyond accepted norms.” Anthony Storr

BOLD AS LOVE by Jimi Hendrix

BOLD AS LOVE Lyrics
Artist (Band): Jimi Hendrix

Anger! He smiles
Towering in shiny metallic purple armor
Queen jealousy envy waits behind him
Her fiery green gown sneers at the grassy ground

Blue are the life-giving waters taken for granted
They quietly understand
Once happy turquoise armies lay opposite ready
But wonder why the fight is on

But they all bold as love
Yeah
They all bold as love
Yeah
They all bold as love
Just ask the axis

My red is so confident he flashes trophies of war
And ribbons of euphoria
Orange is young full of daring
But very unsteady for the first go 'round

My yellow in this case is not so mellow
In fact I’m trying to say it's frightened like me
And all these emotions of mine keep holding me from uh
Giving my life to a rainbow like you

But I’m uh yeah I’m bold as love
Yeah yea-ah
Well I’m bold, bold as love
Hear me talking girl
I'm bold as love
Just ask the axis
He knows everything

Yeah, yeah, yeah

Jimi Hendrix was a genius guitarist and even years after his untimely death, his music and magic on the guitar continue to thrill music enthusiasts around the world. He definitely embraced his talents boldly. He touches on this subject of boldness and love and I suggest reading the lyrics to see how they speak to you. Enjoy the lyrics and music. Happy Holidays!

  5. Great post Kat and I am a little envious that you are able to make time for such a bold pursuit as writing a great blog post. Fabulous and I will come back often to see what you have going. My word going in to 2011 will be simple. As in simple elegance and not simple minded. As in, often the most effective solution to a problem is the simple solution and not the complicated one. Thanks for the little exercise...loved it. I'm a new follower over from 40 and Over http://inherpeace-janetsjournal.blogspot.com/ and http://theskinnyonmini.blogspot.com/ Have a great weekend. 9. bold and hendrix in the same blog... getting inspired. been thinking about bold of late; for me its following my heart/instinct and not letting the "filtering-moderating" voice stop me from what I know is right for me.
stay bold my friend! (sounds like a bad TV commercial phrase-but i'll use it anyway..)
